Liability for Holiday Parties
Hosting a company holiday party? Here are some tips to reduce your liability from the Society for Human Resource Management:

1) Have an alcohol policy – and enforce it!

2) Hire a professional server if serving alcohol – they will card those who look underage and help identify those that are a little too happy.

3) Hold the party off-site with easily accessible public transportation, provide a car service or even give out gift cards to the employee or their quest who has offered to be the designated driver.

4) Minimize opportunities for harassment or discrimination – no mistletoe! – remember religious and cultural differences.

5) Review your insurance coverage to be sure you have Employment Practices Liability (sexual harassment, discrimination, etc), Workers Compensation for employee falls and injuries, General Liability for 3rd party claims, perhaps purchase special event coverage.
