Business Owner PolicyWhat information your Design Professional firm will need in the event of a Business Owner Policy claim?  It is good to know what items are important when you are reporting a claim.  Below is a list of some of the items needed:

  • Date of loss
  • State the loss occurred
  • Policy number
  • Date of notice (date reported to carrier)
  • Information about contact person at your firm, name, address, phone number, email address, etc. Also, what is the best way to reach the contact person, phone or email?
  • Description of the incident – a detailed description of what has occurred, the more detail provided the better.
  • Has your firm been contacted by an attorney? If so, information about the attorney, name, address, phone number, etc.
  • Loss location information, the address and/or city of loss
  • If the claim is for automobile liability – information about the vehicle and driver of the vehicle, additionally, any other vehicle information and the driver of the other vehicle
  • Witness information will also be requested if there is indeed a witness.
  • Claimant information – name, phone number, address, etc
  • If it is a property claim – the property that was damaged, photos (if possible), reason for damage to property, estimated property damage amount (if known), etc.
  • Any additional documentation you may have with regards to the loss

The more information your firm can provide to the carrier the better.  The carrier may have additional questions as the claim proceeds your firm may be asked to provide additional information.
